Walter Prendiville graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is a consultant gynaecologist at the Coombe Women’s Hospital and at Tallaght Hospital Dublin. Professor Prendiville is responsible for directing the RCSI undergraduate medical education programme at the Coombe. He is a world expert in screening for cervical cancer and is an accomplished surgical innovator, having pioneered the minimally invasive LLETZ procedure for treating precancerous cells on the cervix. In recognition of his international status in this regard, he was elected Vice-President of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology in 2006.
His special areas of interest include advanced minimal access gynaecologic surgery, cervical cancer screening and treatment, contraception, and prevention of postpartum haemorrhage. Together with Dr. Ray O’Sullivan, Professor Prendiville runs Ireland’s only advanced gynaecologic laparoscopy training programme, based at the RCSI Unit at the Coombe.
