The RCSI Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is fortunate in having leading consultant gynaecologists recognized internationally for their expertise and innovation in gynaecologic cancer, urogynaecology and infertility. The history of the RCSI Department demonstrates this innovation, including the implementation of Ireland’s first IVF service under the direction of Prof. Robert Harrison at the HARI Unit at the Rotunda Hospital, and the development of minimally invasive LLETZ treatment for precancerous cervical changes under the direction of Prof. Walter Prendiville at the Coombe Women’s Hospital. This treatment is now recognised internationally as being at the forefront of efforts in preventing cervical cancer.
